Rush Announced As Living Legends

Classic Rock Magazine have today announced that the multi-million selling Canadian rock band RUSH will be honoured with the ‘Living Legend’ award at this year’s Marshall Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards in association with Currencies.co.uk. Rush will fly in to London to collect the award on 10 November, with Alice Cooper hosting the event at London’s Roundhouse venue.

The awards event will also see live performances for the first time in its six-year history, from Alter Bridge, Cheap Trick and The Union.

The Classic Rock Magazine ‘Living Legend’ award is bestowed on a rock act for their enduring influence and remarkable achievements in the world of rock music. As one of rock’s most influential bands, Rush will be joining an illustrious list of previous legendary recipients such as Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper and Lemmy.

Rush are also nominated for DVD / Film of the Year, along with The Doors, The Runaways, Oil City Confidential and Saxon.

Geddy Lee said “We are thrilled to receive the “living legend” award from Classic Rock Magazine. It's much better than the alternative! Seriously, we are humbled and very appreciative.”

Editor-in-Chief of Classic Rock Magazine Scott Rowley added, “Ridiculously, Rush haven’t yet been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame – so it’s an honour to recognise their massive contribution to rock music at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour.”

The nominations for the 2010 Marshall Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in association with Currencies.co.uk were announced earlier this year with AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, Slash and KISS all battling it out with multiple nominations. Voting is open now on
link or in the October issue of Classic Rock Magazine, on sale now.

Rush (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart) are widely acknowledged for their musical diversity and complex compositions, weaving blues-rock, synth and prog rock, earning them numerous accolades worldwide and at home in Canada. The band are ranked at No. 3 after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band- with 24 gold records and 14 platinum. Their total worldwide sales are estimated to be in the 40 million mark, with a new album Clockwork Angels, scheduled for release next year.

The Classic Rock brand goes from strength to strength – and launched its own High Voltage festival with Mama Group earlier this year. With a series of specials running alongside the regular magazine and website (link), the line-up includes Classic Rock Presents: Prog – a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to Progressive Rock and the new Classic Rock Presents: AOR – hitting shelves this November. Earlier this year, Classic Rock partnered with the legendary Slash and Roadrunner Records UK to pioneer a new method of music distribution, releasing Classic Rock Presents: Slash – his debut solo album and a 132-page special, a month before its conventional release.
