Killer Attractions Set For Standon Calling

With just six weeks to go until the most-anticipated independent festival of the summer, Standon Calling is proud to reveal some of the stellar stalls, dressing-up shops and collaborations at this year’s event. Standon Calling’s chosen charity Phoenix Futures, a charity that supports people in drug and alcohol rehabilitation, receives £2 from every ticket sold.

Heritage Arts Company, our resident theatre troop has revealed that artist Alice Llewelyn’s record covers are not for sale at this year’s Standon Calling gallery; they are for robbing! In collaboration with Heritage Arts interactive theatre, in which British crime capers are brought to life for festival-goers, Alice is offering up some of her interpretations of the world's most iconic record covers. The 25 prints, which would usually be sold for £200 each, will be the focus of an Art Theft rumoured to be taking place on the Saturday night – with the Robber Gang recruited from the public. Only the most dedicated scoundrels will get to take home these seminal music images including one of the headliner Buena Vista Social Club's album covers.

Cuisine at Standon Calling features Indian food, warming toasties, Italian pasta dishes and gourmet Suffolk ice cream. The array of stalls expands this year to include vintage clothes shops, Love Music Hate Racism, booksellers, and for the first year Gabby Young’s Gabberdashery This is the lead singer of Gabby Young and Other Animals clothes and crafts stall! The multi-talented Gabby Young is also performing at Standon Calling with her band so will be one busy lady and we can’t wait to see her designs.

In line with the ‘Murder on the Standon Express’ theme, Sweeney Todd’s Barbershop is also on site! Providing services in a theatrical setting, come along for a wet shave and the strangest haircut of your life! Beerwolf Books are on board to bring their eclectic collection of reading material to the festival, supporting the literary aspects of Standon Calling with spoken word and literary performances provided by The Book Club Boutique. Bizarre Bazaar will be pulling up in their lorry to unleash a beautiful dressing-up shop, complete with costumes, make-up, hair pieces and stunning photography services.
Our on-site tailor Anna Popovich will be stocking some of her own exclusive pieces (£20 – £300). Ms Popovich will also be available to make criminal customisations and outlawed alterations to your own clothes and costume, free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the Bingham Trust.
Stunning lingerie brand What Katie Did will also be on site, providing undergarment inspiration for those glamorous outfits. Diesel Radio are on board as well, broadcasting across the stages for continual on-site coverage for those in tents and in surrounding area to tune in, turn on and get involved!
