Lissie has confirmed a headline show at London’s ICA on July 27th .It comes hot on the heels of her already sold out show at London’s Bush Hall later this month and the release of her highly anticipated debut album ‘Catching A Tiger’ on June 21st on Columbia Records.
It has already been a whirlwind few months for this mesmerizing new artist from Rock Island, Illinois with a list of highlights as long as her arm including; her performing on Later with Jools Holland, dueting onstage with Ellie Goulding link , triumphantly winning over the SXSW festival with an unfathomable 10 shows in 3 days, championed by as broad a media spectrum as you could possibly imagine – from single of the week in The Sun, raved about by US gossip mogul Perez Hilton (who witnessed one of her Austin SXSW performances and swooned over her voice), praised by the likes of Q, Clash, The Fly, Sunday Times, Big Issue, Daily Mirror to name but a few.
Her current single ‘When I’m Alone’, also release on June 21st is playlisted by Radio 1, 2, Absolute, Xfm, Bauer network & Q radio and being spun frequently elsewhere across the nation’s airwaves, radio 2 have also awarded ‘Catching A Tiger’ their coveted Album Of The Week. Lissie’s recent sessions for radio 1’s Rob Da Bank and Dermot O’Leary for radio 2 both showcasing the depth of quality of her voice, and giving listeners a glimpse into the captivating artist behind the songs. In a year dominated thus far by stylistic female artists – Lissie stands out notably from the crowd; there is nothing whipped or spun, styled or shaped about her, her performances are both refreshing and honest and individually unique.
Never shy of work or performing, a period of just 48 hours last week saw her appear on both Britain’s early morning primetime GMTV show link and at the Bonneroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee and still manage to return to the UK in time for a show supporting City & Colour at London’s Forum a day later.
Online she has picked up well over a million plays on YouTube as fans have discovered her charms, alongside some spectacular cover versions, that began with her take on Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ for the Dermot session link and has since taken in Lady Gaga link & Kid Cudi link along the way to rave response, showing the versatility and depth of that voice that and has also seen her pick up praise and support from a broad range of artists, from Courtney Love, Katy Perry, Mumford & Sons to Ellie Goulding to name but a few.
Having now decamped to the UK from her home base in Ojai, California for the foreseeable future, Lissie continues to tread the boards across the nation‘s live venues. Having recently completed a series of dates as special guest to Joshua Radin, City & Colour and Local Natives, Lissie is currently on a headline tour of the UK with Alan Pownall and has a full program of touring continuing throughout the Summer with confirmed festival appearances at Glastonbury, Hard Rock Calling, Bestival, Latitude, Dot To Dot, Evolution, Camp Bestival, Summer Sundae, Secret Garden Party, T in The Park & V festival and dates in the US as part of the influential Lilith Fair Tour and at Austin City Limits festival. She has also confirmed a special afternoon show as special guest to Sia as part of the iTunes festival at London’s Roundhouse, on July 11th on World Cup final day.
Recorded in Nashville late last year with Jacquire King (Kings of Leon) & additional songs with Bill Reynolds (Band of Horses), ‘Catching A Tiger’ is packed full of surprises. For starters there is a voice that crackles with the influence of the blues as much as it does with say folk music, and a range and delivery that could put most rock singers to shame. Then more importantly there are the songs; where wonderfully brooding & emotionally charged stories mix with a magical warmth that feels as at home blasting out of a radio today as it does driving across the desert with the wind in your hair.
