I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to decide what to write my editorial about this week. This is why I’m running two days late with it, but I still don’t really know what to write about so I’m going to write about writing.
I guess it kind of fits in with the fact the Ivor Novello Award nominations were unveiled yesterday. Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal are leading the way with two nominations each. Lily’s song “The Fear” is up for Best Song Musically and Lyrically… really? I can think of a lot more songs that are a lot better in both of these aspects. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like Lily Allen. I even paid to go and see her last year! (Although I did enjoy Example more.) But is she really an award winning lyricist and composer?
There are better songs than “The Fear” in her catalogue too. Although, the people that chose her for this award also picked “Bonkers” by Dizzee Rascal as a runner and rider in the Best Contemporary Song category!
I just can’t imagine Dizzee up there amongst the likes of Marc Bolan, David Bowie, John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney. Although, I guess if the Spice Girls can get one…..
Anyway, this week on our delightful site we have an interview with Alan Wilder, competitions to win a Drop Dead t-shirt, tickets to the New to Q tour and tickets to see Chase and Status. There are also tours from Hip Parade, Black Mountain, Roachford and Devil Sold His Soul.
