Recently nominated for Pop Album of the Year at the Juno Awards (Canada’s equivalent to a Grammy), synth-pop sensation LIGHTS’ debut album ‘The Listening’ will be released here on May 17th on Warner Bros. Records.
Already a Top 10 hit on both the Canadian album and the Billboard Heatseekers charts, ‘The Listening’ includes all of LIGHTS’ homeland hits to date, including the MuchMusic #1 hit ‘Drive My Soul’, the #3 track ‘February Air’ and her UK introductory single ‘Ice.’ The album’s UK release adds two new songs – ‘Up, Up and Away’ and ‘White’ – as well as four exclusive acoustic performances.
“My songs are spawned from moments of sadness or intense emotion,” explains LIGHTS, a multi-instrumentalist who is proficient on guitar, piano and drums. “I sat back and listened to everything I had feverishly created over the past years, and I was happy. I realized I had discovered more about myself when I was just listening and creating music than from anything else.”
Like Michael Bublé, Nelly Furtado and Feist before her, LIGHTS already has a Juno Award for New Artist of the Year to her credit and has also collected two Canadian Radio Music Awards. ‘Drive My Soul’ featured in hit MTV reality show The Hills, while Old Navy used four of her songs in their major spring 2008 promotional campaign.
LIGHTS’ online profile is pivotal to her fast growing success. With over 22 million MySpace plays, LIGHTS far exceeds plays generated by artists such as La Roux, Little Boots and The Saturdays. She is also a prolific YouTube uploader and her videos there have received 14 million streams.
Recently seen on these shores as support to Owl City, Example and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, LIGHTS is confirmed to play a select tour of headline dates to coincide with the album release. It includes her first London headline show at The Borderline:
