To distract myself from not being in Austin, Texas for SXSW I jetted off to Egypt for ten days to lie in the sun, drink bucket loads of red wine and pretend I was in the video for Club Tropicana with brightly coloured cocktails at the swim up bar.
During this time I listened to a lot of music on my iPod that I normally just skim past. You know how it is, you’re on that daily commute again and you want to hear certain things to get you through it. At least, that’s what I do. Listen to whatever happens to be flavour of the week repeatedly until I get bored and move on. So listening to all the hidden gems my iTunes had to offer was really nice.
With bands that are now defunct or just well and truly fallen off the end of my own personal radar playing in my ears I was taken back to times in my life that these melodies had been the soundtrack to. It was almost soothing. Listening to, for example New Rhodes, Ladyfuzz, Feable Weiner, Johnny Panic and Test Icicles brought back five, very different, but very memorable times in my life and a huge smile on my face.
Maybe I should follow this up with a where are they now feature…. Maybe not. But I implore you, listen to those songs you usually skip and they may just put a spring in your step for the day.
Anyway, enough of my drivel, loads has been going on at Glasswerk. Check out interviews with Ali Love and States Of Emotion, new videos from She & Him and You Me At Six and the delightful Seth Lakeman, The Paddingtons and Mama’s Gun are on the road!
P.S. Here's a present in video form from my holiday playlist
