Almost one year since becoming Fairtrade certified in the UK and Ireland, Cadbury Dairy Milk is celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight by releasing its first album. The Glass and a Half Full record label has teamed up with chart topping Paolo Nutini and The Big Ghana Band to create ‘Big Swap Songs’, an eight track album featuring an exclusive rework of Nutini’s hit ‘Pencil Full of Lead’, along with unique Ghanaian covers of a selection of top UK hits from bands such as Girls Aloud, Elbow and Goldfrapp.
The launch of the Cadbury Dairy Milk’s Big Swap album will be supported by a new, £1million TV campaign featuring Paolo Nutini himself, which will air for three weeks from Friday 19th February. The ad will air during a number of primetime programmes, including Dancing on Ice and Champions League.
Cadbury Dairy Milk fans can download a free copy of the album by visiting link to tell us what items they have swapped for items with the Fairtrade mark. Or, they can visit their local newsagents during the second week of Fairtrade Fortnight to receive a free CD. Additional content will also be available online including a video of the Pencil Full of Lead cover and a picture gallery.
Phil Rumbol, Marketing Director for Cadbury comments: “We wanted Cadbury Dairy Milk’s involvement in Fairtrade Fortnight to encourage the nation to get involved in the Fairtrade movement for this fortnight and beyond. For this campaign we looked to Ghana, the heart of Cadbury Dairy Milk’s Fairtrade cocoa, for inspiration.”
Commenting on the reworked track and album, Paolo Nutini says, “Fairtrade is a brilliant initiative and it’s great that people can get a free album as a reward for swapping to Fairtrade products. The Ghana Band and I have done a brilliant new version of ‘Pencil Full of Lead’ to celebrate the fortnight which is on Cadbury Dairy Milk’s album – I hope everyone likes it.”
Harriet Lamb, Executive Director for The Fairtrade Foundation says, “The album is an exciting and innovative way of encouraging people to take part in the Big Swap. Thumbs up to Cadbury’s for supporting Fairtrade Fortnight and offering this fun reward to people who swap one of their shopping items for Fairtrade to help farmers, workers and their communities in developing countries.”
The limited edition album celebrates the partnership between Cadbury Dairy Milk and the Fairtrade Foundation and demonstrates Cadbury Dairy Milk’s continuing commitment to create thriving cocoa communities in Ghana through the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership. It has been 102 years since Cadbury first started working with Ghanaian cocoa farmers, and two years since initiating the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership, an historic move that saw Cadbury invest £45 million over 10 years to secure the sustainable future of cocoa farming in Ghana, India, South East Asia and the Caribbean.
