The Drums Announce Second Single 'I Felt Stupid'

After playing their first ever UK show to a packed-out, hugely excitable crowd at London's Flowerpot venue last month, The Drums cemented their arrival as major new talents and look set to be one of hottest bands of 2010.

The four-piece, complete with their two female backing singers (in matching outfits no less) played an exceptional set which showcased some brand new songs including highlight 'Best Friend', plus debut single 'Let's Go Surfing' and tracks from their 'Summertime!' EP.

The Drums' second single 'I Felt Stupid' is set for release on December 7th through Moshi Moshi. 'I Felt Stupid' is near pop perfection with its swooning lyrics, huge soaring melodies and giggling children's voices. Taking the unlikely templates of 50s surf-rock and Factory Records as inspiration and mixing in a new wave sound, The Drums are purveyors of some of the most exciting new sounds to come out of the US this year. As the saturation point of female-fronted electronic acts has surely been reached in the UK, The Drums arrive with a brand new sound.

The Drums return to the UK for a string of shows later this month including In The City Festival in Manchester, and headline shows at the Barfly and Koko in London.

The Drums' 7-track EP is out on October 12th on Moshi Moshi Records (the label responsible for launching Hot Chip, Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires, Kate Nash and Late of the Pier amongst others).

Singer Jonathan Pierce and guitarist Jacob Graham met each other at summer camp when they were children and have been best friends ever. Soon after their initial meeting, they formed a persistent yet unprosperous electro pop band called Goat Explosion and toured extensively in North America during their teenage years. Around 2003, Jonathan and hometown friend and Drums guitarist Adam Kessler formed indie rock group Elkland, and in the meantime, Jacob formed a band called Horse Shoes (Shelflife Records), specializing in melodically strong and sentimental love songs. Jacob and Jonathan had long planned to start a new band together, and having tired of electronic music they agreed to shift the emphasis from synthesizers to guitars without ever having learned to play them. Their first co-written song, aptly named “Best Friend” was a strong indication of the direction and spirit of the band, and thus The Drums were born. They self recorded and produced around fifteen songs while living in central Florida and with big dreams and a batch of songs they believed in, made the move to New York City. With their arrival in New York, The Drums added former Elkland guitarist Adam Kessler on second guitar and NYC born drummer Connor Hanwick (formerly of lo-fi teen pop duo Cape of No Hope) to the line up and by the end of Summer 2009, The Drums' concerts had become dance parties attended religiously by the most critical music fans in New York City.

The Drums are currently in New York City and are hard at work on their first LP.
