Tim, Olly and Mark (aka Filthy Dukes) have certainly got a strong case for being the up there with the busiest men in music right now – it’s fair to say that the summer of 2009 has been a bit of a blur for the guys. Having taken in a ridiculous amount of festivals and shows starting with The Gossip in Berlin back in May and taking in IMS in Ibiza, three sets at Glastonbury, Glade, Wireless, Melt in Germany as well as shows in Istanbul, Cologne, Kuala Lumpur and hosting/programming their Kill Em All residency at Fabric…. Phew! Yes they’ve been very busy, and that’s not even the half of it!
The response to the sleepless summer of touring has been really quite staggering with the band finding new friends in every corner, from the paying punters to Sara Cox on Radio 1 and even the ghetto-superstar Wiley. You can imagine the reaction when man himself got in touch with the band about doing a new version of TupacRobotClubRock that he could jump on! In fact the timing couldn’t of been more perfect with the plan always being to re-visit T-R-C-R after the summer. The results are huge, with Wiley’s very distinctive grime flow complementing the lyrical spitfire of Philadelphian funsters Plastic Little perfectly.
There just simply isn’t a record out there that sounds like TupacRobotClubRock, it’s utterly unique not just in the combination and use of sounds but in the collaborations that will shortly see UK legend MC Dynamite getting in on the act with a special alternative version (more on that soon). It’s worth noting the new Kill Em All Let Wiley Sort It out remix from the ‘Dukes which consist solely of Wiley’s vocal and a brilliant dancefloor re-working of the original track – simply massive!
As with all Filthy Dukes packages there is no shortage of quality on the remix package for DJ’s (it’s an added bonus when you have two of the countries most in-demand DJ’s in the band) and you can expect to hear club rock versions from Drums of Death, Oliver $, L-Vis 1990 and of course Filthy Dukes themselves.
Filthy Dukes will be touring again in November with dates to be announced soon as well joining a very impressive list of artists to compile and mix the hugely influential Fabric Live mix, which will be out in October. Listen out for their brand new remix of Ian Brown too, oh yes!
