Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday night after falling from a catwalk during a concert in South Dakota.
The 61 year old rock star was attempting to entertain the crowd with a dance after the sound system failed half way through the concert, which was taking place at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Tyler stepped off the catwalk backwards and sustained shoulder and neck injuries, which turned out to be a broken shoulder and injuries to his head and back which required stitching. The singer was stretchered off by security and taken to the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Mike Sanborn, spokesperson for the Buffalo Chip Campgroung, where the concert was held, said to the Associated Press that, “He was good natured about it. He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician.”
The incident occurred at approximately 12.15 local time, and the show had to be cancelled, which was announced to the crowd by guitarist Joe Perry.
The band have announced that their show on Friday night in Winnipeg, Canada, has been postponed.
