DeVotchKa, the Grammy award nominated pioneers of Gypsy Folk Revival return to Ireland next Monday 10th August for the first time since the release of their 'A Mad & Faithful Telling'; their first on Indie label Anti.
Though best known for their award winning soundtrack to 'Little Miss Sunshine' (the soundtrack – comprised almost wholly of DeVotchKa songs – was nominated for a Grammy Award).
However it was the Denver quartet's beautiful lament 'How It Ends' that featured on the regularly aired TV advert for the Xbox 360 video game 'Gears of War 2', that garnered them even more recognition.
Although their music is generally rooted in American folk, their multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi (and many more styles), using at least a dozen instruments.
DeVotchKa play Crawdaddy Monday the 10th of August. Tickets are priced €16/20 & available from Ticketmaster, City Discs, Sound Cellar and usual outlets.
