Having played shows in the UK and Europe alongside the likes of Lostprophets, Fighting With Wire, Kids In Glass Houses and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and at a selection of summer festivals, Cardiff based quartet The New 1920 are certainly starting to carve out a name for themselves with their vibrant rock stylings.
Their debut EP, released yesterday, was produced in garages and bedrooms across Cardiff last summer by Lostprophets trio Stuart Richardson, Mike Lewis and Ian Watkins, serves as the perfect foundation, showcasing the bands punchy, upbeat verses, flawlessly complementing their penchant for a huge sing-a-long chorus.
Though only a four-track affair, the release touches on an array of themes, as singer Colin explains, “It’s about life, love, loss, city life, ups, downs, escape and ultimately understanding our own goals.” With collective influences ranging from classic outfits The Jam, Pearl Jam and The Police to the modern sounds of We Are Scientists, The Strokes and Kings Of Leon, the band draws from these influences to write straight forward energetic rock songs with an undercurrent of punk rock edge, which is inherent in the bands roots.
