John Peel and Joy Division to be Honored in Rochdale

Two new plaques, to celebrate Rochales' musical history are set to be unveiled, honoring Joy Division and John Peel.

Both are issued by Rochdale town council. One is set to be placed on the former Tractor Sound Studio's which was financed by John Peel in 1973, after the local band Tractor sent him a demo tape.

The second plaque is going to be at the Kenion Street Music Building, a former home home of New Order bassist Peter Hooks' 16 suit studios. The building was used by bands such as Joy Division, amongst others, and was in use from 1977 through to 2001, the building was also featured in the film “24 hour party people”

The plaques are set to be unveiled on the 23rd September, Peter Hook, Inspiral Carpets' Clint Boon, Mock Turtles' singer Martin Coogan and OMD's Andy McCluskey are just some of the people expected to attend.
