Fans were asked for their wish-lists of the acts they most wanted to see at Oxegen 09, voted by you as Europe's favourite festival, taking place this weekend at Punchestown Racecourse, Kildare, Ireland.
Below is just a taster of the huge array of acts that will be playing over the weekend, which begins on Thursday the 9th & finishes Sunday July 12th.
The Main Stage
Europe’s favourite rock n roll weekend
will be headlined by four of the most loved
bands on the planet. Blur are one of the most inventive and iconic bands of the last two decades and their reunion promises to be unforgettable.
Co-headlining Friday is Snow Patrol.
Latest release A Hundred Million Suns
continued their incredible chart success
and it’s sure to be an anthemic, hit
packed performance.
Kings of Leon conquered the first ever
Friday night headline slot at Oxegen
08 and return this year on Saturday at the
demand of their adoring Irish fans. On
Sunday, The Killers return. They first
played Oxegen on The News Bands
Stage in 2004; fast forward 5 years and
they are global superstars with an immense
back catalogue!
Among the other fantastic artists playing
the main stage are The Script, Bloc
Party, Razorlight, Elbow, Lily Allen,
The Specials and Lady Gaga.
The O2 Stage
The O2 Stage has something for everyone
this year. Keane impressed many
critics with their new sound on Perfect
Symmetry and are back at Oxegen for
the first time since 2005 while Nick Cave
& The Bad Seeds make their long
overdue Oxegen debut on Saturday.
There’ll also be performances from new
talents The Horrors and White Lies
who have both released hugely acclaimed
albums recently. Sunday night on Stage 2
belongs to Rock with Nine Inch Nails
following Jane’s Addiction on stage –
what a double bill!
Heineken Green Spheres
Last year’s Green Room is now
Heineken Green Spheres Stage
and the capacity is going up from 9,000
to 11,000. So it’s fitting that the line-up is of suitably epic proportions. The Pet Shop Boys should wow with their hits on Saturday while Republic of Loose’s blend of soul
and rock has made them one of the most
popular bands in Ireland.
With a line-up also featuring Manic
Street Preachers, Glasvegas and
the inimitable Peter Doherty, The
Heineken Green Spheres Stage
will be a popular destination all weekend.
The Dance Arena
Whether you like electro, techno, house
or drum n bass, the Oxegen Dance
Arena has it covered. Some of the
hottest names in dance music have been
confirmed including rising star Deadmau5,
electro-clash pioneer Felix
Da Housecat, the phenomenal Boys
Noize and the bewitching Fever Ray.
They join a stellar line-up featuring Tiga,
Swedish House mafia and Dublin’s
finest Annie Mac.
IMRO New Sounds Stage
The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and Oxegen have brought
together a stunning line-up for this year’s Imro New Sounds Stage.
Featuring headline performances from David Kitt, Director and Villagers as well
as a host of emerging new talent from home and abroad. It’s a line-up that reaffirms
the sheer quality, variety and ambition of emerging acts in Ireland right now and the
stage will be the place for clued up Oxegen fans to discover an incredible array of
new talent before anyone else.
