The 29th Brit awards took place last Wednesday at London' s Earls Court, with the theme set as British summertime. U2 kicked off the show with their new song 'Get On Your Boots' with Bono rockin' the smokey eyed look and Larry Mullen Jr looking as fit as ever. This year's hosts were Kylie, James Corden and Matthew Horne. Who took to the stage to Kylie's ' Can't Get You Out Of My Head' with James & Matthew showing off their dancing skills. Apparently the comedy duo had rehearsed some parts of the show without Kylie so she reacted naturally to the jokes on the night. Kylie looked radiant as ever and had no less than five outfit changes.
Performances came from Girls Aloud who performed 'The Promise' which won the British single award. Coldplay's performance of 'Viva La Vida' was striking, with the red paper falling from the sky looking like rose petals. Chris Martin went into the crab at one point, at least he's supple. I guess now we know what Gwyneth sees in him. Duffy swept the board winning three out of the four awards she was nominated for. During her acceptance speeches she seemed like a charming girl, who hasn't let all the fame that's been betowed on her over the past year affect her. She also did a lovely performance of Warwick Avenue with a big band behind her and I'm sure the fashionistas out there will agree all her outfits were perfectly suited to her. I'm guessing Take That came from the sky in some kind of spaceship, although, I'm not entirely sure what the glasses were about? Double award winners Kings Of Leon stormed the stage with one of the best performances of the night with 'Use Somebody'.
After all my excitement over the collaborations we got one in the form of Estelle and the Ting Tings. It wasn't exactly in the same league as PJ Harvey & Bjork's 'Satisfaction' from 1994, but it was decent enough.I would imagine it was one of those performances where you had to be there to get the full impact of it.
Brandon Flowers took the the stage to present the Pet Shop Boys with the outstanding contribution to music award. He said that he was first introduced to the PSB when he had to choose between their 'Discography' and The Smiths 'Louder Than Bombs'. If he had choosen different The Killers could have been a whole other band.
The Pet Shop Boys took to the stage for their performance looking as quirky as ever. Neil Tennant manages to pull it off. Although, Chris Lowe looked like a Andy Warhol impersonator, kind of like Neil dressed him up and pushed him onstage. However, they still put in a good performance running through hits such as West End Girls, Disapointed and It's A Sin, amongst others. Lady Ga Ga and Brandon Flowers both joined the Pet Shop Boys onstage during the performance.
