Soco Social Event With Mylo

Following the success of last year’s SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour, February will again play host to Southern Comfort’s Mardi Gras month, a series of FREE ‘credit-crunch busting’ parties set to heat things up and bring the spirit of New Orleans to the UK – for free!

SoCo Social Mardi Gras will visit London, Manchester and Glasgow in the space of four weeks, delivering the hottest musical talent from both Europe and New Orleans accompanied by delicious Southern Comfort cocktails.

Returning to Glasgow on Friday 27th February at The Winchester Club, 8pm-1am with one of the hottest line-ups to start the new year, SoCo Social promises to dish out something special. Headlining the event is Scottish electro pioneer Mylo with support coming in the form of Glasgow luvvies Killer Kitsch. Flying in from the home of Mardi Gras, New Orleans own, Big Sam’s Funky Nation will be showcasing the sites, sounds and energy of the famous party city.

SoCo Social Mardi Gras will draw on New Orleans’ biggest street party, celebrating the last day before Lent. Decked out in extravagant fancy dress thousands of revellers drink and dance to the beat of passing floats all set to the sounds of traditional brass bands and the colourful sites of Mardi Gras beads, masks and costumes. In Glasgow expect ‘carnival chic’ with monstrous masks, neon nonsense, glowing beads, vivacious visuals and tasty Southern Comfort cocktails, all mixed up with the nu-rave-neon festival atmosphere SoCo Social has become renowned for –‘let the good times roll!’

With his blistering performance for SoCo Social at Rockness Festival still fresh in the mind, Mylo returns to headline the SoCo Social Mardi Gras Tour. Having produced the best selling album ‘Destroy Rock n Roll’ and with remixes for The Killers, Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters under his belt, the flying Scot is the perfect man to take on the mantle of SoCo Social headline. Not content with being one of the biggest DJ/Producers on the planet, the man from Skye has also launched many an attack on the UK and Amercian charts, scoring numerous top 20 hits, the most successful ‘Dr Pressure’ peaking at number 3 in the UK.

Representing New Orleans is the energetic and hip Big Sam’s Funky Nation. Presiding over his Funky Nation is Big Sam, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who blows the funk out of his trombone and refuses to let the audience sit still. Having performed with global superstars such as U2 and Green Day, Big Sam is ready to showcase his talents to a UK audience. Between solos and trombone riffs, Big Sam second-lines (a uniquely New Orleans style of street-dance) and gets the crowd going both in movement and in replies to his call-and-response MC-style. A talented group of jazz-trained musicians makes up the Funky Nation, bringing with them the improv-style associated with jazz and the horn-heavy front section a hallmark of big band funk.

Glasgow’s own two-man party starters – with a popular residency at The Buff Club and appearances at Rock Ness festival, we’re not sure how much longer they’ll be twitching just Scottish ears. Having played alongside the likes of Justice, Freeform Five and The Glimmers, their well-honed electro-disco mash up sets have become legendary around the streets of Glasgow.
