To brighten up those cold and miserable post-Christmas blues; ten of the UK’s finest performers and songwriters will be playing A Midwinter Picnic; an eclectic all-day acoustic music event in Brighton raising money for Amnesty International.
On Sunday 11th January 2009 the intimate West Hill Hall, in Brighton will see stars from across the pop, punk and trad folk scenes join forces for this extra special event. Artists already confirmed to perform include: hugely acclaimed trad folk duo Spiers & Boden, chart-topping Carter USM frontman Jim Bob, Australian alt-country chanteuse Emily Barker with her female band The Red Clay Halo, Tunbridge Wells’ fresh new Radio 1 favourite Tom Williams, Irish poet Brendon Cleary, and the phenomenal Timothy Victor’s Folk Orchestra. With a further bunch of special guests and DJs to be announced, A Midwinter Picnic is shaping up to be a perfect way to ease into the new year.
Midwinter Picnic is curated by Brighton-based radical singer Chris T-T (who will also perform) and is organised in conjunction with new London promoters Lexapalooza Presents…
Chris said: “Amnesty’s work is more relevant than ever, with our freedoms eroded daily and ID cards round the corner. The evil of torture has gained a foothold in supposedly civilised countries and we need to kick it out. As well as raising money, something like Midwinter Picnic can remind people there are things they can do, letters they can write, which will make a real difference.”
Midwinter Picnic runs 3pm -10.30pm on Sunday 11th January. It’s a ‘bring-your-own food’n’booze’ style event, although hot drinks and snacks will be on sale throughout the day.
