The Vatican's official newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, has officially forgiven John Lennon for saying the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. The famous Lennon remark was made during an interview at the peak of Beatlemania. The paper said the remark was simply “the bragging of a young man wrestling with unexpected success”, and shouldn't anger good Catholics. The newspaper also talked up the Fab Four's 'White Album', which celebrated its 40th anniversary this weekend, saying it was a good example of the Beatles “creativity”, and was streets ahead of the “standardised, stereotypical” songs being produced today.
