November Rain

Sometimes after a let down, heartbreak, disappointment, feeling a bit lost or whatever, you have too take some time to find yourself. So what better way than to take a step a back in time and remember all those things you love that shaped you but somehow you forgot because you work 6 days a week and you got to busy to purely indulge in finding yourself. So flashback to 1994…

In 1994 I had bad hair, an Insette obsession and to add to that my hair was brown (oh dear). In later years I made the wise descision to go blonde and what a descision as blondes do have more fun. Now my brother is the one to blame for my Guns ‘n’ Roses addiction, this is how it started… I'd get up of a Monday morning dead to the world and my bro, hyperactive as ever (he must have stole my energy) was up already watching videos( bare in mind it was 7 am before we went to school). Sometimes U2, sometimes Bon Jovi (yeah I said Bon Jovi- the video for ‘I’ll be there for you’ is engraved on my mind forever- dear God). Anyway, one of those videos was Gun ‘n’ Roses in concert and man did I love that band. I remember sneaking in his room when he went out robbin’ his Guns 'n' Roses tapes, taping it, (remember it was ‘94) then taking it back in his room and putting it back in the same place so he didn’t notice.

So back to 2008, I got some wine pyar rocked out to Guns 'n' Roses and dreamt of Axl in his lycra shorts, thought of Jimmy Dean, looked through my Degas books, picked out some of my fave Bukowski and Kerouac quotes, then wrote a list of my fave bands. I needed this, I feel I’m back to my old self, in the words of Radiohead ‘for a minute there I lost myself’. The biggest lesson you will learn in life is the only person who can make you happy and fulfil yourself is you, the trick is learning how to connect with yourself, that’s the challenge.

‘The problem was you had to keep choosing between one evil or another, and no matter what you chose, they sliced a little more off you, until there was nothing left. At the age of 25 most people were finished. A whole goddamned nation of assholes driving automobiles, eating, having babies, doing everything in the worst way possible…’

Charles Bukowski
