The Coast unleash debut UK EP and tour

Heavily tipped for big things this year in their native Canada, Toronto’s The Coast release their debut UK EP on October 13th 2008 on Aporia Records. The ‘Killing Off Our Friends EP’ features four tracks, three taken from their debut UK album ‘Expatriate’ (slated for release here in January 2009), one of which has been exclusively remixed by Tokyo Police Club, and an additional track from their debut Canadian EP release.

Leading Canadian music monthly title Exclaim! singled out The Coast for major breakthrough success in 2008, as did Toronto’s Eye Weekly and MTV Canada, thanks to the support they had built through extensive North American & Canadian tours. They took to the road with, amongst others, The Dears, Sam Roberts, The Duke Spirit, Elbow, The French Kicks and Tokyo Police Club, supported Foals at the coveted CMJ Showcase, and played SXSW Festival this year. They recently performed instore at HMV Toronto with Billy Bragg. Last week, their album was No.8 on the CBC Album Chart (Canadian equivalent of the BBC).

The tracks on their UK debut ‘Killing Off Our Friends EP’, all hooky guitar pop melodies on lush, layered electro-rock epics, were produced by Chris Stringer (We’re Marching On, Ohbijou), who allowed the band to capture the off-the-floor energy of their live shows on record. Tracklisting for Killing Off Our Friends EP as follows:

1. Killing Off Our Friends (from debut album Expatriate) – 2. Nueva York (from Expatriate) – 3. The Lines Are Cut (from debut Canadian EP release The Coast) – 4. Tightrope (exclusive Tokyo Police Club remix of track from Expatriate)

High school friends, the quartet started their marathon journey to their debut UK release eight years ago when two sets of friends (including a set of brothers) came together out of their shared love of music. The Coast (singer/guitarist Ben Spurr, guitarist Ian Fosbery, bassist Luke Melchoirre, and drummer Jordan Melchiorre) have been steadily rising on the red-hot Toronto indie scene, signing to Aporia Records in 2006 on the strength of their self-titled EP release and word-of-mouth about their dynamic live show.
