Glastonbury 2008 Round Up

Glastonbury 2008 was different for sure, Glasswerk were there and it’s taken us until now to recover and so we can try and round up the best bits for your pleasure.

The debate of the so called rubbish line up had ended. Whether it was a more RNB feel that put people off or that there are so many little festivals on that people are spread across the country, kind of didn’t matter – the festival had begun!

Glasswerk’s Jo Hoskins started the weekend by bumping into none other than Mr Eavis himself who was in jovial mood ‘All the effort is worth it just look around, we spend the whole year getting the site right again for a week of carnage and then start the whole thing again’

Quizzing him on the line up Eavis replied The whole point of Glastonbury is to showcase a diverse range of music and we should accommodate every genre the end of the day we sold the tickets’.

Maybe it was the credit crunch who knows? Glasswerk then managed to bump past Mark Ronson who shouted ‘Il have to dash I’m on stage in 5 minutes with the Zutons’. Mr Ronson then ran off to join The Zutons on The Other Stage for ‘Valerie’

There were rampant performances throughout the weekend, Glasswerk’s favourites were notably Vampire Weekend and Crystal Castles. Psyched buzz band MGMT made everyone feel floaty but got too much by the end of the set. Elbow played The Other Stage and were simply magnificent there now an institution but an institution we never want to lose.

Those girl next door boys The Mystery Jets provided some excellent sing alongs on The Park Stage. Hot Chip made a global gathering feel on the Other stage. Ah Glasswerk managed to get half the set of Last Shadow Puppets Park Stage lovely though it was the lads were stripped down to just two guitars which took some of the beef out of the performance.

At The John Peel Stage Band of Horses ragged everyone up with their classic rock n roll very impressive. Avoiding Will Young on The Avalon Stage our reporter went over to catch Black Kids hit and miss performance. The Enemy however got the crowd a surfing and flares beamed out for their appearance on the John Peel stage. Pete Doherty larked about on the park stage with a greatest hits on show.

The rest involved magnificent performance of Kings of Leon who seemed to have played on different stages over the last couple of years, The Verve rolling back the years were just simply mega! Neil Diamond roused the crowd into more sing alongs and Ting Tings rocked. Leonard Cohen was worth the trip just to see him sing Hallelujah!

Ah Jay-Z had a little poke at Mr Gallagher his performance enthralled the crowd but you know someone like The Who or Oasis would have been a bit more effective for us ;). Glasswerk totally missed Amy Winehouse’s performance but watching it back we feel gutted for missing The Specials cover fest and a punch up!

Less mud and less messy this year but it was almost like Glastonbury 2008 was a success in a quite well behaved way!

One more thing Glasvegas were just simply amazing at the Old Queens Head.

After this year’s debacle in the lead up it’s now primed for Eavis to make up a massive line up that will sell out in an hour, 2009 calling!
