Alongside the likes of The Gossip / The Horrors / New York Pony Club / The Whip, the hotly tipped Manchester rock n roll 5 piece, Gasperilla, have won the public vote on BBC Manchester’s ‘unknown pleasures’ competition to play Salford Quays for the Manchester International Festival to an audience of 5000.
Gasperilla’s unusual if not unimaginable sonic blend of Stone Roses, Guns n Roses and The Rolling Stones will stand alongside The Whip, The Horrors, New Young Pony Club and The Gossip, at the open air gig this Sunday.
‘We’re fans of The Gossip and we’re happy to be playing with the big boys-or should that be the big girls!’ says guitarist and vocalist Neil Grainey. Hundreds applied, but just seven bands were selected by the festival to be subjected to the public vote on the BBC Manchester website.
‘We were absolutely blown away by the win, and it’s a big thank you to all our fans who took the time out to cast their vote. We wouldn’t be doing the gig if it wasn’t for them. ‘ says Neil.
‘This is just the push we need. It’s great that the festival is supporting Manchester talent, we’re also happy to be adding to a substantially female-filled line up’ says vocalist Jess.
Tickets have sold out for the event at Salford Quays, but fear not, Gasperilla have also been asked to headline Virgin Megastore the day before (Saturday) where there will also be the opportunity to win tickets for Sunday’s gig. The band say they ‘look forward to tearing the place apart.’
Gasperilla headline Virgin Megastore Manchester on Saturday 14th July and open Unknown Pleasures at Salford Quays on Sunday 15 July.
