2006 was a huge year for Wolfmother. Easily clocking over 1,000,000 sales of their debut album worldwide, a Grammy Nomination (Best Rock Song), months in the Top 75 in the US, Germany, Australia, Canada, Norway and the UK.
They played the main stage at Reading and Leeds festivals, headlined the MTV2 Spanking New Music tour of the UK – culminating in a triumphant sold out night at Brixton Academy. And now a nomination for Best International Breakthrough Act at the Brits…even more rewarding since Myles and Andrew have a British heritage.
Wolfmother is also heading towards Platinum in the UK with their critically-applauded and self-titled debut. The Aussie trio were also recently nominated for the Best New Band award by readers of Kerrang! Magazine, and Classic Rock magazine.
The band hasn’t been forgotten back in Australia either. Far from it: they cemented their position as the biggest band in Oz by scooping up 3 awards at Australia's Aria Awards last month – Best Breakthrough Album, Best Rock Album and Best Group. They were the second biggest selling band, behind U2, of 2006.
And, Wolfmother are hitting the UK again February, with two nights at the Apollo. Not bad for a band that just two years ago was playing at the London Barfly. They will go into the studio towards the end of the year to work on their hugely anticipated second album.
Wolfmother are: Andrew Stockdale (guitar & vocals), Chris Ross (bass & organ) and Myles Heskett (drums).
