Having recently spoke out as regards the possible closure of Cardiff’s legendary record store Spillers, Manic Street Preachers star Nicky Wire and Stereophonics main man Kelly Jones are now supporting a bid by XFM to launch a station for South Wales. The station are bidding for the area's FM regional radio licence, to join their branches in London, Manchester and Scotland.
Wire has pledged his full support for the bid, by saying he would be the chairman of an advisory board should it be successful. The bassist said: “Recent years have seen an amazing explosion of musical talent from South Wales succeed nationally and internationally. Before going on to say
“Whether the Stereophonics, Super Furry Animals, Lostprophets or The Automatic, the presence of an XFM station in the area will allow yet more talent to come through from a local level and go on to great success.”
Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones also backed the station, explaining: “When I drive back to Wales and listen to the radio on the way I realise how limited some radio is outside of London. Wales deserves to hear the new stuff first, and XFM provides that!” For more information as regards the bid please click here link
