Thursday evening saw Welsh metal titans The Lostprophets continue their triumphant awards ceremony streak at the Welsh Pop Factory awards in Cardiff. Having recently dominated the Kerrang awards they left the Coal Exchange with the three biggest prizes of the evening. The Prophets overpowered the opposition on the night to walk away with the gongs for Best Live Act, Best Album (for Liberation Transmission) and the biggie of, Best Welsh Band. Prophets lead singer Ian Watkins was ecstatic, hailing the award for Best Welsh Band as ‘to win best band in the best country in the world is wicked’.
Close on the heels of the Prophets were new Welsh Indie gods The Automatic, picking up two awards, only 12 months on from their barnstorming appearance at last year’s awards ceremony after winning best new act. This year’s triumphs came for Best Performance on ITV Wales' The Guestlist programme and the Rock And Roll Excess Award for their mental early morning trouser-dropping garden-trashing antics on GMTV.
Other winners on the evening were south Wales new boys The Blackout picking up the Best New Act award. The North of Wales were heavily represented in the Best Welsh Language Act with Blaenau boys Frizbee taking the honours. Live music on the evening came from The Automatic performing ‘Raoul’ and Aaron Elias’ new band Y Rei. The evening came to a raucous end with the mother of all sing-along’s came in the shape of Tony Christie and ‘Show Me the Way to Amarillo’. The awards ceremony will be shown on ITV Wales on December the 11th at 11:20m. The winners on the evening where
