The renowned charity, Oxfam – a development, relief, and campaigning organisation aimed at finding lasting solutions to poverty and suffering worldwide – is currently planning its most ambitious music event ever, called OXJAM. This nationwide music festival will be occurring throughout October in the form of a series of live gigs that hope to raise much needed funds for the charity.
Liverpool is a city proud of its music heritage and as such, will be taking an active part in this live music initiative. Headlining one of the biggest Oxjam events here, the city has turned to its own, home-grown talent and did not look far to find exciting new band, Rebbeca.
Having stunned crowds at this year’s Mathew Street Festival, the Liverpudlian-based four-piece have been making immense progress in 2006, attracting attention from all sides of the music industry. Strong supporters of the work Oxfam do and enthusiastic about any free concert scheme, Rebbeca have been eagerly involved in the bid to get an Oxjam gig in Liverpool. As such, you can catch them for free at the Liverpool Barfly on Friday 6th October , with donations and an exclusive merchandise auction to raise money for the charity.
Outside of charity campaigning Rebbeca are currently focussing on spreading their music throughout Liverpool and indeed beyond. With headline gigs at the Manchester Academy, University of London Union and the Liverpool Carling Academy the band are certainly establishing themselves as one to watch. Their preview before this year’s Mathew Street was as ‘a band waiting to explode’ and despite there being some way to go before Rebbeca are the fully fledged stadium rockers that their fans and criticspredict, they are certainly on their way. This may be a rare chance to get in before the masses and snap up some band memorabilia.
Rebbeca will be back in the studio in November recording their hotly anticipated debut album, ready for early 2007. However, November will also bring a limited edition release of the single ‘Armed as One’ on 7inch Vinyl. Indeed, Liverpool will play its role in the accompanying video for this single which will include live footage from their fantastic set at the Mathew Street festival, the result of which is currently in the editing process. If you just can’t wait, the single can be pre-ordered from their official website link.
Take the opportunity to catch the Band now and snap up on some hotly anticipated signed merchandise at this October event. Not only will you be able to catch the guys up close but they will be followed up by a great set of DJ’s who’ll be playing the best in Rock/Indie music before and after the band. And remember, it’s all free, just come down and support the cause.
