Katie Melua, queen of tedious ballads and croaky 'heart-felt' vocals, returns from America to release 'It's Only Pain', her new single, and a special edition of her multi-platinum album 'Piece By Piece.'
Not that we haven't already heard all of her songs about 3 trillion times already (if only on that damned DFS advert). And, like we all know, people who release special editions of the same album are really in it for the music, it's not a money-making scheme at all, oh no.
Let's face it, the music industry have no morals, there's some news for ya.
It never ceases to amaze me how Katie still managed to totally sell-out her European tour which included 18 dates in Britain and a further 28 dates across continental Europe with a total audience exceeding 150,000 people – do these people enjoying punishing themselves, and in turn, us? Sadists.
Katie has spent the last 3 months on tour in North America, appearing on high profile shows such as The Today Show and Good Morning America. Which begs the question, why didn't she do us all a favour and stay there?
She has returned to Britain (noo!) in time to release her new single, the aptly titled 'It's Only Pain' and a deluxe version of 'Piece By Piece' which will include a bonus DVD (cause she's absolutely fascinating to watch too, if only the media had known before how profitable the 'deer in the headlights' look is).
The original version of 'Piece By Piece', released in September 2005, has sold more than 1.2 million copies in Britain and more than 3 million copies worldwide, proving the often suggested scientific hypothesis that approximately 3 million people in the world are partially, if not completely, deaf.
'It's Only Pain' was recently recorded at New York's Manhattan Centre Studio 4 while on Katie's recent tour of the States.
The up-tempo feel of the song represents a departure from Katie's previous more ballad-orientated (aka yawn-inducing) singles. The CD will also include an acoustic rendition of 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2 during a radio broadcast session. This is clearly sacrilege. John Lennon will be spinning in his grave.
Katie's forthcoming activities include a headline concert at the Grand Prix Masters, headlining the BBC Summer Proms in Manchester and a
special concert at the bottom of the sea in an oil rig. For the sake of all music that is good in the world, let's hope she stays there.
If you really like punishing yourself, watch her video in one of it's many forms below. Or, take my advice and pull out your fingernails one by one; it may indeed be the more preferable option.
