Feeling Sick of Repetitive Rock? Go and see The Saw Doctors!

How do you keep fans on The Pogues Christmas Tour away from the bar for a whole hour? Well, the answer in 2004 was to book the friendly and rhythm conjuring folk/rock/pop posse of Ireland’s The Saw Doctors. Their ability to make nostalgia palatable and pleasing in classics such as ‘N17’ and ‘Red of Mayo’, coupled with their wizardry of the love/lust song ‘Useta Lover’, will make their customary 2 hour plus sets flyby, as they head around the U.K. showering fun over crowds with impunity.

Arguably their best and most expansive album is 1999’s ‘Songs from Sunset’. Numbers from this offering usually feature heavily in their live shows, with the chant-along of ‘Tommy-K’ and thumping rock force of ‘Joyce Country Ceili Band’, being particular highlights to look out for. The main songwriters of the outfit, Davy Carton and Leo Moran have a laid back and compelling stage presence, losing themselves in the proceedings and taking the crowd with them.

Latest album ‘The Cure’ shows that they have not lost their ability to craft rhythm. The power pop grinder of ‘Last Summer in New York’ captures the spirit of The Levellers and sprinkles some brass around it. The slow and acoustic lament of love’s sometimes cruel lure, ‘Addicted’ is a powerful piece of modern pop music and is perfectly suited to the acoustics of the venues on their forthcoming tour. The Saw Doctors’ as a band, if anything are gaining more importance in modern music with their ability to combine veracity with fun. Don't be a killjoy, jump on the 'N17' bus to a venue near you and join them.
