Bullet For My Valentine look set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Welsh men Lost Prophets, Funeral For A Friend and Feeder in becoming one of the biggest rock bands in the country. Their self titled EP of last year set tongues wagging before the band secured their position as one of the best live acts in the country supporting Funeral For A Friend. Their rapturous reception at the Kerrang Day Of Rock saw them nose out in front of a talented and promising shortlist of nominations.

Few acts have risen as meteorically as Orlando’s Trivium this year. Already Kerrang coverstars, dubbed “The hottest metal band of the century” and following an incendiary performance at this year’s Download the winner of best International newcomer comes as little surprise. They have said they want to be the biggest band in the world, who knows which award they might pick up next year.

Winner: My Chemical Romance – ‘Helena’
One of the most popular bands to pick up an award tonight, My Chemical Romance have helped make the rock video the art-form it is with a long line of ground breaking promos. For ‘Helena’ the band took on the roles of pall bearers at a funeral the like of which has not been seen before, with a huge cast of extras and borrowing heavily from the musicals of Rodgers And Hammerstein ‘Helena’ was the most ambitious video of the past year.

Jaz Colman’s Killing Joke have been more a force of nature than a straight forward new wave punk band since their eponymous debut album in 1980. Killing Joke have been incredibly influential on many of the biggest rock bands on the planet including Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and the Foo Fighters. It is particularly fitting the presenter of the award was Dave Grohl.

Dave Grohl’s post Nirvana band Foo Fighters have emerged as one of the biggest rock bands in the world over the last 11 years. Their fifth album ‘In Your Honor’, from which the single ‘Best of You’ is taken has shown another side to the band with two separate ‘acoustic’ and ‘rock’ discs.

The band will perform at the Carling Weekend: Reading & Leeds festivals tomorrow (26th August) – playing both sites on the same day so they can return to the US for the MTV TMA Awards, for which they have been nominated 4 times.

The record has also made the band household names and has been responsible for bringing politics into the living rooms of countless American kids.
