Glasswerk.co.uk Announce their In The City Manchester Line-up 2005

As the yearly bandwagon of London music industry roll into town for the annual In The City music conference, gigs and performance spring up around the city. Showcases of eager new faces line the streets while hungry a&r prowl lurking and looking for the next big thing to spring out upon them. To save their weary legs Glasswerk.co.uk and VmanEvents team up to produce the highlight event of the weekend at the Dry Bar, Oldham St, Manchester. Searching the deepest annals of the UK and beyond, conference calling across the globe and listening to music till their ears bleed – a proud line-up is announced. Mixing the brand new, the up and coming and the established stars with all the razzmatazz and glitterati attached. The Dry Bar is once again alive with the sound of music …. (Groan).

There are well over 50 bands planned to perform with the event running from 7pm Friday 30th Sept, through all day Saturday and Sunday (1st, 2nd Oct) and ending on Monday 3rd Oct. With two main stages sharing the ground floor of the venue this is officially the unofficial ITC event of the year – once again.

Some highlights of the weekend confirmed so far are:

Friday 30th September

A Cult Called Karrianna – About to sign a major deal with a US based label. Dark, electronic, distorted noise with pounding melody.

The Research – signed to EMI late 2004. This wonderfully twee pop threesome have tunes in abundance amid crappy Casio keyboard sounds that delightfully disarm the interested listener.

Hot Club De Paris – Recently signed to Moshi Moshi records (Bloc Party, Yeti, New Rhodes etc etc). Bizarre pop tunes with a capella breaks and beach boys esque harmonies.

Fleeing New York – Self released on their own label, Stuckupmusic. Atmospheric rock and roll with comprehensive airplay on Radio 1 and BBC6 Music.

Saturday 1st October

Misty’s Big Adventure – Signed to SL Records. Grand Master Gareth and his merry bunch of loony tunes music bandits have toured with The Zutons amongst others and bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Seachange – Looking for a new deal after parting company with Matador – labels pay attention. This wonderfully prog/folk/indie rock combo are awesome. Sign them. Now.

Cherubs – Signed to Cargo Records. Having toured with The Departure, The Others and Yeti as well as supporting The Libertines on their reunion gig back in 2004, The Cherubs have excellent east end street poets breeding.

Trap2 – Sheffield sleazy rock with big sounds. Supports with Kasabian and sold out EP releases (including an offer from Kasabian to remix one of their singles) plus dates at Club NME up and down the country. Ones to watch indeed.

The Mardous – Signed to Pop Tones. Driving indie ‘scapes and wistful lyrics.

Komakino – Signed to Drownedinsound. Their debut ‘Say Something Else’ was released in July 2005 and you can catch these Brit Rocksters at the Carling Weekend this month.

Sunday 2nd October

Young Offenders Institute – Brazen Mancunian attitude with wild rock attitude. They released their debut single on Pinnacle earlier this year proudly exclaiming what they are. Their press photo is of one of them hugging a crate of Stella…. Says it all really.

White Rose Movement – Signed to Independiente. They released their debut single in May this year. Intense geek chic.

The Lost Weekends – A dynamically dark ensemble going the DIY route. Distortion and acoustic guitars clash to nail audiences.

Laruso – Already garnering a UK audience and fresh from supporting Fightstar on their last UK tour the kids are going wild for these posthardcore-tastic young gentlemen.

The Most Terrifying Thing – Signed to Seeca Records they are hardly terrifying but bring a Killers esque brand of rock to the table.

Fickle Public – Signed to Small Town America (Jetplane Landing) they embody the DIY spirit which has seen JPL explode on to the UK stage.

Dead Sea Tapes – A brand new band discovering their way with experimental noise, electro and distortion. Prog to the extreme – loud quiet loud quiet loud quiet loud quiet….

Monday 3rd Oct

Mark Morriss (The Blutones) – Mark steps out to play a few acoustic gigs and stops at Manchester on the Monday. Having been top of the musical food chain for a decade now, The Bluetones return with a new EP and tour in November but here is a chance to see an intimate performance with one of the heroes of the UK music scene before they step out on their main tour.

Full listings will be released shortly.

As well as the two main stages at Dry Bar there is also alternative nights being ran in the underground Crypt room over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Glasswerk.co.uk and VmanEvents are proud to present:

Saturday 1st October – Artful. Showcasing creativity expect an eclectic and bizarre listing.

Sunday 2nd October – Dead Or Alive.

So 50 bands on the main stages over the weekend plus alternative stages in the crypt and each day is rounded off with Dance She Said Djs till the early hours playing off beat indie, classics and dance tunes. It’s a behemoth of an event.
