Kicking off the biggest week in the rock calendar, the Kerrang! Day of Rock at the Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street, London on 24th August will host 4 amazing bands playing live throughout the day with headliners Lostprophets performing a special show to 500 lucky ticket holders.
The day will also see the first announcement of the nominees for the 11th Annual Kerrang! Awards … held on Thursday 26th August in a secret central London location.
Some of the hottest up and coming names in UK rock – Biffy Clyro, Minus, Reuben and yourcodenameis:milo will be joining the fantastic Lostprophets for the greatest free rock event in London this summer. The bands will also be available for a signing session, and the very last pair of tickets for the prestigious awards will be given away in a competition on the day. Tickets for the Lostprophets show will be available at the Virgin Megastore from Saturday 21st August and are limited to 2 per person.
Last years’ Kerrang! Day of Rock featured worldwide superstars The Darkness just as their album hit the number one spot. They played an incredible set (on one of the hottest days of the year) to 500 crazy fans who couldn’t believe their luck to see the biggest band on the live circuit playing such an intimate show. At the time, vocalist Justin Hawkins declared “we would like to see this prestigious Day of Rock established as an international holiday! Surely it’s just a matter of time? “
Lostprophets
Celebrating their 2nd album ‘Start Something’ hitting a million sales, Lostprophets play their first show in the capital for over 6 months. The band have appeared at several festivals over the summer in between a massive US tour – and go from the Kerrang! Day of Rock onto the Carling Weekend: Reading & Leeds later that week. A new single ‘Last Summer’ is released the week of this appearance and is sure to be played alongside other hits from their top 5 album.
Biffy Clyro
Scottish art-rockers make a welcome return to the Kerrang! Day of Rock. The band appeared last year and gained a fantastic response, as vocalist Simon Neil said “Even though it’s in a record store it still feels like a gig”.
minus
minus have been collecting fans and plaudits since their first trip to the UK just over 12 month ago to promote the 'Halldor Laxness' album. An orgasmic mix of Led Zeppelin and Guns ‘n’ Roses with their own unique Icelandic twist, this high-voltage 5 piece walk it like they talk it. The band stop off for their first ever in-store in London on their way to the main stage of the Carling Weekend: Reading & Leeds and are sure to raise the temperature in the Virgin Megastore basement.
Reuben
This three piece have been described by Kerrang! as “Gutsy, passionate rocking from one of the most promising young bands in Britain…” and with the release of their debut full length album ‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’ earlier this year, they’re finding more fans all over the country. A formidable and intense live band, they’ll definitely win more fans over with the release of new single ‘Moving to Blackwater’ and at the Kerrang! Day of Rock.

This Newcastle-Upon-Tyne five-piece have been turning heads and gathering fans since the end of ’03 with their aggressive sonic assault. They released a Steve Albini produced mini-album ‘All Roads to Fault’ earlier this year to great reviews, a download only single ‘I-Shoes’ through I-Tunes and are currently recording with the legendary Flood.
The Kerrang! Awards is always the biggest night out of the rockers year … with the coolest and craziest names in the capital having the biggest and wildest fun. This year will be no different with the most exclusive, and eclectic guest list promised yet ….
