The Open release their debut album on the 5th July 2004. Entitled ‘The Silent Hours’, it was recorded at Bryn Derwen Studios, North Wales, produced by Simon Raymonde (formerly of the Cocteau Twins) and mixed by Dave Bascombe (Tears For Fears).
From Walsall and Birkenhead, The Open formed in 2002 at Art College in Liverpool. Recently included in the NME’s 2004 ‘Hot List’ of new acts and latterly described by the paper as “the sound of the future”, The Open’s debut album ‘The Silent Hours’ includes the March ‘04 single (and“sure-fire hit” – NME) ‘Close My Eyes’. A brand new single ‘Just Want To Live’ precedes its release.
‘Just Want To Live’ is available from June 21st, on four formats. The single includes the exclusive tracks ‘Out of The Box’, ‘Bodies’, ‘Without’ and ‘Colours’ across its formats. ‘Out of The Box’ was recorded at Bryn Derwen in the sessions for the album, the other three songs were recorded on 8-track and mixed with Mike Cave in Liverpool. All four songs are new and unavailable anywhere else.
As with ‘Close My Eyes’, a limited edition 12” version of ‘Just Want To Live’ will also be available only through the band’s website www.theopenmusic.com. The 12” of ‘Close My Eyes’ has now completely sold out.
