The Angular Recording Corporation are set to release their as-yet-untitled second compilation CD on June 7th.
Their first release “The New Cross: An Angular Sampler” was an instantsuccess, selling out in two weeks and kick-starting the careers of current media darlings Art Brut and Bloc Party.
Released at the end of last year the first Angular sampler showcased 14 up and coming bands, mostly with some loose connection with the New Cross area. “Unsigned bands not shit shocker!” screamed the NME who awarded it a very respectable 7/10. Art Brut's track “Formed A Band” was recently re-released by Rough Trade and became a bona fide hit single earlier this month.
Such was the quality of the compilation that a well known A&R guru called up to ask which of the acts were worthy of further investigation. “All of them!” was the bemused response from Angular supremos, Joe D and Joe M.
The new compilation is shaping up to be even better. “This record will truly be a classic,” confirms Joe M. “We have found some great new bands to mix in with some of our old favourites. You have our word on this, the record will be great. Better than a 7/10!”
Currently lined up for inclusion are The Vichy Government (dubbed “the most offensive band in Britain” by Simon Price in the Independent On Sunday), The Long Blondes, The Violets, The Swear, The Rocks, Luxembourg, The Boyfriends, Elizabeth Harper, The Fucks and Sweetie. Perhaps the most anticipated track
is an exclusive version of Art Brut's soon-to-be-classic “Top Of The Pops” featuring guest vocals from no less than 19 Angular-related bands!
(A live version of the ensemble track was attempted last week at Angular's Pop Of The Tops night at the Paradise Bar in New Cross, when Art Brut were joined on stage by members of The Lovers Of Today, Luxembourg, The Boyfriends, The Rocks, The Vichy Government and Rhesus – see picture).
The release will be supported by a host of Angular related activity
including a Triangulation Festival (whatever that means) in early June. More info very soon.
