Must be the way they breed 'em in West Yorkshire, The Cribs and The Blueskins from Wakefield, 10,000 Things from Leeds and just as you take your eye off the ball along comes another band…riding the the noo wave of no wave!
'Oh My God' is an ace card to play for a debut single and is by no means a one off, t'Chiefs retain a veritable glut of tracks as anyone who's witnessed their recent live outings could testify. Comprising of three tracks, reference points number many, from the angular agit pop influence of Josef K via the songwriting (genius) of Andy Partidge cross fertilized with Devo, Pulp and the passion of Dexy's…listen and decide.
So named after the South African soccer side – once home to Leeds Utd's Lucas Radebe, fact fans – the Kaiser Chiefs like all good bunches, number five and have been together in present form since early 2003. The arrival of a demo late last year started to prick the consciousness of local and national tastemakers alike and has seen many a hushed conversation at gigs since…
The Chiefs also indulge on the other side of the tracks when they host their now infamous Pigs night in Leeds, attracting plaudits from far and wide and recently described by one publication as “a fashionista's wet dream, providing you can can stomach the odd novelty Van Halen track…”
The single is available on CD only (DiS0003) and comes backed with 'Born To Be A Dancer' and 'Caroline, Yes' – three songs almost too good to be released together.
