This month bruins bar is proud to present:
Thurs 23 Oct – Clinton Avenue
Up and coming indie rock band Clinton Avenue promote the forthcoming
release of their debut single “Movie Star”. A tight four piece, with
excellent guitar riffs, and one of the most powerful lead voices in the
indie rock scene today.
Sun 26 Oct – U.F.C. Showcase
Original acoustic blues and folk (that gets a little bit jazzy in places)
provided by Urban Folk Collective, who also present an array of unsigned
talent in this local showcase of bands.
Tues 28 Oct – Kick Out The Jams
An Open Mic Night hosted by Chezz (with 2 Zs)
A chance to let your talent shine! Or just come along to watch and listen.
See the stars of tomorrow today, as the young wannabes take to the stage
and perform. If you're the next big thing bring your instrument and talent
and show us what you can do. (Now EVERY TUESDAY due to popular demand!).
Thurs 30 Oct – Halloween with Spooky Stephen Sarson & Naughty Nick
Ainsworth
Two of bruins' favourite entertainers take to the stage to bring you a
camped-up, gothic gala. Truly not a night to be missed. For those of you
yet to encounter the delights of this dynamic duo, then read on:
NICK AINSWORTH – Hailing from the badlands of Chorley, Nuclear Nick is a
songwriter who draws comparison to Beat Happening, Evan Dando, Paul
Westerberg and the anti folk movement of New York. Heavily influenced by
Tom Morgan of Smudge fame, Nick delivers his comical insights on life,
love, hate and his big blue vein. Raw but not overly energetic! A must see!
STEPHEN SARSON – The Pink Fluffy Cloud Machine ex-frontman goes solo for
one night only (while he sorts out his new band!) and plays his original
new wave, Britpop and punk songs, with a slight Smiths feel.
Tues 4 Nov – Kick Out The Jams

Sun 9 Nov – John McKay
Heywood's own acoustic troubadour brings the sounds and attitude of Woody
Guthrie and Leadbelly kicking and screaming into the 21st century. With an
incredibly intense and extremely strong voice John McKay plays a rare mix
of original tunes, modern blues and Americana blue grass, and sometimes
throws in a Nelly tune just for good measure.

Thurs 13 Nov – David Kay & the Defendants + Nick Ainsworth
DAVID KAY & THE DEFENDANTS – Classic rock 'n' roll, containing fuzzy punk,
delicate disco-folk and a country-ish twang. David Kay is the sexy,
charismatic singer who leads the band with purpose and clarity. His
confidence means his vocal performance is sometimes experimental – a
mixture of note perfect crooning, spoken poetics and knowing humour. The
Defendants comprise a tight, lean and chunky rhythm-section of Mark Jones
(bass) and Duncan Morrison (drums), and one of the most accomplished and
tasteful axmen of recent years – the enigmatic guitar hero know simply as
Ev.

Sun 16 Nov – Butler's Chain Gang
ANDREW 'blind boy' BUTLER leads the Chain Gang in performing 50% original
material and 50% covers, including some very old Southern songs of
salvation to help soothe the soul. Andrew 'blind boy' Butler, harmonica and
Jews harp virtuoso, is haunted by the spirit of Sonny 'Hootin' Terry (a
blind harmonica virtuoso from North Carolina, who died in 1984). The Chain
Gang features Ramblin' Jack Merlo and Washboard Hartley.
