Aqualung, in the shape of singer-songwriter Matt Hales, follows the huge success of last year’s self-titled debut with the October 13th release of a new single ‘Brighter than sunshine.’ Taken from his second album ‘Still Life’ – which follows on October 27th – this has all the markings of a pop classic with its soaring strings, irresistible melody and sheer immediacy.
Written earlier this year – after selling in excess of 200,000 copies worldwide of ‘aqualung’ and earning himself an Ivor Novello nomination – the single is, in Matt’s words, “about as unequivocal a love song as you’ll find in the world of aqualung.”
Amongst the other songs waiting to be discovered on ‘Still Life’ are ‘Another little hole ’ (“It's about the fact that the clock's ticking, I guess. And regardless of whatever’s happening, good or bad, there's only so long it's gonna go on for”), ‘Easier to lie’ (“About how hard it is to be good”) and the sublime closing ballad ‘Good goodnight.’
With ‘Still Life’, Matt Hales has propelled himself to the status of one of Britain’s strongest songwriters. With a big push planned for America, it’s only a matter of time before Hales is recognized as a major global talent.
Live dates are currently being confirmed and will be announced shortly.
