The 1994 hit single ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ from the soundtrack of the cult US film ‘Reality Bites’ put singer songwriter Lisa Loeb on the map. It not only earned her a Grammy nomination and a Brit Award but international recognition of her quirky style and undeniable talent.
Lisa’s childhood was ‘immersed in music and performance’ and she starting writing songs at 15, forming her first band with friend Liz Mitchell at university. After graduating and playing as a solo artist in the bars, clubs and coffee houses of New York, increasing interest in her sound and performance led to the recording of ‘Stay’ and the beginning of Lisa’s professional career.
Her debut album ‘Tails’ came out the following year and with her band, Nine Stories Lisa toured endlessly, performing with a host of musicians including Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Counting Crows and the Indigo Girls. She performed at each of the four years of the touring event Lilith Fair, a showcase for women musicians in the States.
The follow up album ‘Firecracker’ was released in 1997 with more Grammy attention, by which time Lisa had become renowned as a creative and enigmatic individual, her signature glasses and girlish fashions at odds with popular trends.
Lisa has continued to produce music for films, with recent soundtrack credits including ‘Twister’, ‘Legally Blond’ and ‘Lilo and Stitch’ and has also forayed into acting and voiceovers while keeping music at her centre. Her latest and sixth release as a solo artist, ‘Hello Lisa’, came out last year on New York based independent label, Artemis Records and having toured the new album in her native America, Lisa Loeb is finally coming to London with a one off performance at the Jazz Café on Thursday 11th September.
