You want a definitive summer record? Well no matter what the weather is like outside or the colour of your mood The Drums will cheer you up and transport you to the Florida coast.

The glorious tones remind you of The Beach Boys and yet their melancholy lyrics are reminiscent of the great Morrissey. This is very much evident with the opening track ‘Best Friend’ with its hook “you’re my best friend but then you died” but then the with following tracks ‘Lets Go Surfing’ and ‘Skipping Town’ your mood will remain jolly and upbeat.

That is until you reach the middle of this record which has it’s tones firmly set in the era of Coldplay and Radiohead… moody. No matter the mood of this record, this band is the new big thing with an appearance on Friday Night with Jonathon Ross and a supporting slot on Florence and the Machine’s latest dates as well as their own headlining tour, they’re already taking the UK by storm.

Highly tipped to rejuvenate indie pop in America this band has it’s sights pointed straight at the stars. If you haven’t heard of this band then you are sorely missing out, they will make you smile and make you want to dance as well as bringing you to the point of contemplation.
