The crazy world of indie jazz is here again in the form of The Brute Chorus. Threatening to go full on acid jazz, they seem to keep one foot in the indie rock work and let the other keep beat in a more experimental (and completely mental) world where gypsies have all the fun.
“Send Me A Message” is a good example of the balance they keep between the two. The sanity seems to be kept in the singing voice of their front man who is far too sane a singer compared to the craziness that is infused by the music surrounding him.
So if you are expecting anything completely nuts like the Gogol Bordello then this isn’t it. But this is a nice alternative to what most indie rock bands are trying. And there are some sweet moments to as in “Love’s Chains” which comes right down to earth.
The Brute Chorus have a lot of aspects to their work and the are by and large all positive. Worth checking out, and I have no doubts will make a decent performance act as well.
