Bowling For Soup – Sorry For Partyin’

Bowling For Soup are back with yet another studio album entitled Sorry For Partyin’ it was released on 12 October. This album can simply be explained as ‘Bowling For Soup’, just about everything on it is the same old material just with different lyrics but still singing about the same ‘teenage’ subjects although they are very much past being teenagers.

The high points of the album that stood out to me was the first track off the album ‘A Really Cool Dance Song’ it starts of with an extremely simple repetitive guitar riff but towards the chorus the bass really kicks in creating a rather infectious beat with lyrics that are easily remembered. Definitely a song that could be played at a party and would most definitely get people moving. ‘Only Young’ is another song which I feel is good and has the potential to be one of the singles from the album. There is no messing around with this one bass, guitar, drums all kick in straight away and it remains upbeat from there. I think it is generally just an upbeat happy song which people could get straight into as there is something very likeable about it. The song though that strikes me as different is ‘Me With No You’ the lyrics seem like they have come from a thoughtful lyricist who actually takes a serious stance in life. It would be seen as the slower song on the album with the sweeter melody.

As a whole I think the album is nothing more than average but some of the songs do stand out as being different and having more meaning to them. I think it will please people who are already fans of Bowling For Soup as it is so similar to material that they have produced previously and I also think that it could attract some new younger fans due to the immaturity and simplicity of a lot of the songs. Personally I think with the guys being in the industry as long as they have been and it being as competitive as it is at the moment, they should have upped their game a little bit higher.
