Red painted Red complete there trilogy with this EP “Colours”. The first EP (Pathways) was released two years ago, with the middle part being released last year (Preach).
The journey comes to a beautiful end with sounds imaginatively orchestrated in a world that combines many a sound into something that has uniquely become Red painted Red.
The opening track “Colours” is probably the most lively of all the tracks. The vocal work is outstanding… leaping from highs to lows with sombre string work in the background layered over electronic beats and bass.
“Room” is evidently more aggressive as a song in it’s downbeat tone. There are elements of the fairytale are there, as well as a heavy “Siouxsie Sioux” influence in the vocal work. The guitar and Piano work done in this song help make it possibly one of their strongest tracks to date.
The attitude is dropped in “Goldmine” which reaches for haunted beauty in its execution. The final track “We Are Here” is bar far the most stripped down track on the CD, slowly winding the EP down to it’s close. This isn’t a band that likes to go out on a bang; more of an echo instead.
Anyone who is interested in surrealist music, slow burning female vocal led trip-hop, or just open to new things then it is interesting to go back and check out this band’s roots in their first EP right up to this present release. It’s Music as Art; or perhaps Art as Music. You decide.
