Quite rightly described as “Dark Cabaret” mixed with “Ethereal,” Hannah Fury’s new album “Through the Gash” is a slow waltzing funfair of a record. Anyone who can take circus music and turn it into a sumptuous nightmare of seduction as in the “No Man Alive” deserves credit for their imagination. Fury’s music and vocal work is so vivid in what seems like a land of musical fairytale gone wrong.
“Carnival Justice (The Gloves Are Off) part II” is a song that begins with very simplistic music and beats, lead with her own whispers echoing in and out of each other before the music finally leads the viewing into more darkness and temptation.
Her work to date has usually had some heavy piano work, and whilst it is very evident here, she has taken a different route to make this album sound much more fantastical. But her voice as well has undergone a transformation and has become even more the seductress than she has been in the past.
“Through the Gash” is perhaps the beginning of something remarkable in Hannah Fury’s career as all round musical artist. If she continuous down this magical path of wonder then her next release can only work to her credit.
