Colour – Unicorns

The UK music scene is steadily eating its own tail having becoming so blotted on the re-invention of indie that created such monsters as Keane, Snow Patrol and Franz Ferdinand to name but a few. Time has come for a rash of new blood and new sounds to invade and replace the stagnant pond that now is UK indie and London based troupe Colour could very well be that.

The guitars are spiky and the bass moves between perfect punctuation to overwhelming as their track Unicorns peaks and falls so many times in 4 minutes it’s quite a revelation. The song also contains what is almost a jazz solo at around the half way point just in case anybody listening wasn’t already overwhelmed. Leading this wild array of instrumentation is the smooth vocal talents of front-man Alan Welsh (good surname) who possesses a strong and clear voice which provides the necessary glue for all the instrument madness on display.

Having already established themselves as an underground hit around the clubs in Kingston it would seem that Colour are set for a breakthrough some time soon. For those tired with the run of the mill music that is currently ruling the roost in an around UK charts and clubs this little heaven of originality is far more agreeable for the ears.
