With a voice which is immediately haunting and touching, the Celtic influences of artist such as Sarah MacLachlan on Jennifer Parsignault’s new release are obvious. By playing the violin, piano and keyboards which make up most of the music herself she gives not only an added depth but also something just a little more personal into each song.

Her sound is one that will be very familiar in the UK with the ethnic Celtic influences in each song whether it is creeping through in the melody, the chords or the piece as a whole. “Back Home” conjures images of Scotland’s Highlands and vast expanses of loch even though it is unlikely she intended that. At the other end of the scale “Believe Me” sounds profoundly cosmopolitan with it’s ceaseless keyboard riff like a bustling city.

This collection from Jennifer Parsignault, taken from her new album “From The Dark” is mature, emotionally strong and endlessly endearing thanks to her remarkable voice.
