The Deadwoods (acoustic set) – Shambles Vintage Boutique

On the 16th of August 2008 there was a relatively big gig going on in Mowbray Park which I could hear from my house, I didn’t know who was playing and to be honest I didn’t care as I had already decided that I was going over to Shambles Vintage Boutique to catch The Deadwoods do an acoustic set.

The venue was far from full despite some creative methods at getting people into the shop which at one point basically included Joe serenading an old man with a solo song. The poor turn out didn’t lower the band’s spirits as the played a number of their greatest songs which included Boogie MC which sounded more like the original version as well as Breakdown (dubbed “Breakdown in slow motion”).

They also did a number of covers which included Kings of Leon’s “The Bucket” which was surprisingly good considering how much I love the drums in the original; they also covered “The lion sleeps tonight” which was the only song to coax people into the shop who happened to be walking past, sadly these people were chavs so they don’t count by default.

The Deadwoods had a good solid set which might of lasted about 45 minutes but I’m not sure because I was too busy enjoying the music. I’m glad I chose this gig over the park gig as it was a lot of fun and showed me why there are a lot of people in the area talking about this band.
