The Kills kooky single ‘Last Days of Magic’ is pure retro psychadellic trash. Not the type of music you’d expect to see on any chart show… more like the kind of artist band you’d see in a student dive, or as part of an east end art show. There is nothing derogatory about that.
It is a art style however and one that wont ever tread over certain boundries without the artist themselves tweaking their work to a more commercial perception. Kate Nash managed it, and by some standards has failed her music, but triumphed in the big arena. The Kills who are not quite as minimalistic as Nash, have managed to retain that kooky aspect and with a singer that can, well, sing.
I’ll keep an eye out for them in small venues. They’d be worth watching.
