The melodies and handclaps that open Lake Michigan are warm and inviting and as it proceeds, the song seems to twinkle and shine with a fuzzy kind of charm, growing and building towards its conclusion, but, for all the niceties that permeate the track I just can’t find myself taken in by it.
Perhaps all the sweetness just doesn’t have enough edge to counter it, perhaps it lacks enough character to truly mark it out as anything other than… well, quite nice.
It carries all the hallmarks of a good song but doesn’t push itself to be anything more than rather forgettable.
