Duffy – The Ritz Manchester

Duffy brought the house down in Manchester this week at The Ritz. Her amazing show kicked off in style with the sweet, soulful ‘Syrup and Honey’, only to be interrupted by herself to introduce herself. Like we wouldn’t possibly know who she is. Anybody who still lives in a cave would know who this wonder woman was.

Given that her album is now released, she had a much more confident approach and a more up tempo set. She looked a vision of beauty in her cute gingham dress with her blonde locks cascading past her shoulders…her voice only an extension of her beauty.

She followed with ‘Rockferry’ and ‘Serious’. ‘Delayed Devotion’ went down a storm and the Manchester crowd adored her for it. Everybody stood in amazement to watch this little person belt out ‘I’m Scared’. The room was silent and all eyes were on her, mesmerized by this singing sensation. There are not enough superlatives in the English language to use to describe just how amazing Duffy is.

She is continuously compared to Dusty Springfield and rightly so, as there has been nobody in between that has come close to her level of talent…until now. However put Dusty and Duffy in a sing-off and we all know who would win.

This time round, Duffy was able to play new material or ‘B’ sides as she said they were. She has captured the hearts of many and so some new songs are what were needed. She played ‘Put it in Perspective’ and ‘Tomorrow’, two funky tracks which got everyone’s heads bopping and toes tapping.

In between she brought the mood down low again with in classic slow Duffy style, with a Burt Bacharach tune ‘Please Stay’ which will feature over the end credits for an up-coming film about the star Joe Meek. Wow, three singles, one album and already Hollywood is calling.

There are no more words left to big up Duffy other than she simply is raw British talent.
