Panic At The Disco – Pretty. Odd.

Pretty. Odd, is the latest record from Panic at the Disco and what a diamond it is.

Panic at the Disco possess almost a Dickensian style and certain originality that has been lost amongst some rock bands these days. What comes across when listening to this album is just that and also that they have made music that they like, pure perfected pop. ‘I write sins not tragedies’ was a fantastic rock get-up-and-go anthem, Pretty.Odd takes a different turning away from that, but equally keeps that catchy rhythm.

The album is almost like a storybook, or show, with ‘We’re So Starving’ as the opening song. Not in a long time has an album achieved such a clear and obvious theme throughout and managed to stick to it. You can almost imagine, tracks like ‘I have Friends in Holy Spaces’ and ‘From a Mountain in the Middle of the Cabins’ used as asoundtrack to a Fatty Arbuckle film. Other sounds which crept in would be country bumpkin type folk for the aptly named ‘Folkin’ Around’ and a waltzy lullaby for ‘She Had the World’.

What stands out when comparing this album, is the effort and dedication gone into creating something so new, and unique to what is out at the moment. Whether you are a fan or not, this album needs to be applauded and celebrated.
