If a new band released this single it would go almost straight into the bargain bin. As it’s come from inspirational and innovative rockers Bauhaus, some reviewers will ultimately rave about it or at least exaggerate the few high points and ignore the weaknesses, but I will tell it like it is.
Too Much 21st Century is bland and unremarkable, failing to build on a more-than-passable grungy riff. The lyrics are okay but vocalist Peter Murphy fails to throw any passion into the proceedings, acting as if he’s just reading the words without any inkling of emotional attachment. In essence, Bauhaus are just going through the motions.
